Break minutes are subtracted from total elapsed shift time after time difference is calculated.

How it works

The calculator first finds the elapsed time between start and end. If overnight handling is enabled and the end time is earlier, it adds 24 hours. Then it subtracts break minutes to estimate net worked time.

If you provide a target hours value, the calculator also shows whether you worked under, over, or exactly at the target.

Examples

  • 09:00 to 18:00 with a 60-minute break → 8.00 worked hours
  • 22:00 to 06:00 with a 30-minute break → overnight shift
  • Use target hours to compare actual worked time with a standard workday

FAQ

  • What does this calculator do?

It calculates working time between a start time and end time, subtracts break time, and shows the result in hours, minutes, and decimal hours.

  • Can it handle overnight shifts?

Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator can treat the shift as crossing midnight.

  • How is break time applied?

Break time is subtracted from the total elapsed shift time after the start/end time difference is calculated.

  • Can I compare against a standard workday?

Yes. The calculator includes a target hours field so you can compare worked hours against a standard shift length.

  • Are my work times stored?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser.
