How it works

This tool calculates “ideal body weight” (IBW) using several common reference formulas. Most of these formulas use a base weight at 5 ft (60 in) plus an increment per inch above 5 ft. If height is below 5 ft, they subtract per inch below 5 ft.

  • Devine: Male 50.0 kg + 2.3 kg/in; Female 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg/in
  • Robinson: Male 52.0 kg + 1.9 kg/in; Female 49.0 kg + 1.7 kg/in
  • Miller: Male 56.2 kg + 1.41 kg/in; Female 53.1 kg + 1.36 kg/in
  • Hamwi: Male 48.0 kg + 2.7 kg/in; Female 45.5 kg + 2.2 kg/in

Output is shown in kg and lb. Use it as a reference point, not a rule.

Examples

  • Male, 175 cm → shows IBW estimates by formula
  • Female, 5 ft 4 in → shows IBW estimates by formula

FAQ

  • What does this ideal weight calculator do?

It estimates an ideal body weight range using several common reference formulas (Devine, Robinson, Miller, Hamwi). These are general references, not medical advice.

  • Which formulas are included?

Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi. Results can differ because each uses different assumptions and was developed for different contexts.

  • Is this the same as BMI?

No. BMI uses your actual weight and height to classify weight status. Ideal weight formulas output a reference weight based on height (and sex).

  • Can I use centimeters or inches?

Yes. You can enter height in cm (metric) or feet/inches (imperial). The calculator converts internally.

  • Is my data stored?

No. All calculations run locally in your browser. Inputs are not stored or sent to a server.
